Sorry, but I know the beach is for throwing on a bikini and letting a hammock be your primary accessory but I love style and I love bringing my man to his knees.
I immediately went on Pinterest.
I went through my closet and found some similar items inspired from the ones I liked online.
Bikinis:
I opted to purchase a basic white and basic black. Two very plain choices, I know, but I have reasons. I'll also pack my old pink polk dot bikini and old multi colored bikinis for some variety but they are a little outdated. We will see how they work their way out over the 7 days.
Some staples I opted to bring:
Little black dress
White mesh cover up http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SOTSAO/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
Denim shirt

Maxi skirt

White top (see through)
White shorts
Jean shorts
Brown leather belt
Multi-color shirt
Lots of tank tops!
I'll post some pictures from my favorite outfits later.

To zipline, not to zipline
One of the first things I looked forward to was zip-lining!
My fiance, not so much. He's scared of heights. At 6'7" tall I guess he's up high enough. He also said he'd probably do it with me anyways but he's heard that those activities require you to be with a large group waiting around for hours. For me, I don't care. I'd wait a whole day for just one time to swing across the open sky.
So we'll see.
I did look into different tours and it looks like about $100-150 pp.

I also considered as I was searching horse back riding, ATV, hiking, snorkeling. This is going to be a lot of planning. Calling the hotel concierge.

Mama's Fish House!
I don't know how many times I've heard from people after they find out we are going to Maui that they tell us "Go to Mama's Fish House!" Kevin had been to Hawaii before and I trusted his judgement but if we didn't get to this place that mama had he was not going to be happy.
I'll post an update and let you all know if it is really worth all the hype!

Deciding on Maui
Setting:
Friday night. On the balcony in San Jose, CA drinking a bottle of Prisoner and watching the planes go by.
Kevin: "What would you like to do for Thanksgiving?"
Liz: "Well since your kids will be with their mom and us for Christmas, I guess we can go just about anywhere"
Kevin: "Wanna go see our parents?"
Liz: "I guess but I really need a vacation. One that I can relax and just worry about entertaining myself"
Kevin: "Remember that trip we took to Napa during Christmas a few years ago? That was fun right?"
Liz: "Heck yeah!" - By the way, I love our parents and family. I promise to bring a gift back to each and everyone of them. I'll make it up to them, I swear.
Kevin: "Well, would you like to do something like that again? Take some extra days off? We worked hard this year."
Liz: "Where should we go?"
Kevin: Since we travel a lot, we've built up lots of Delta, Hertz, and Marriott points naturally he says, "Anywhere! We'll use points!"
Liz: "Honestly, I just want to sit on a beach."
Kevin: "Hawaii. We should stay at the Ritz!" - now very excited, we started a travel booking frenzy for the rest of the evening.
Before I knew it, we are booked on a first-class flight a few days before Thanksgiving and staying at the gorgeous Ritz Carlton. My goodness. This is going to be fun!
I decided to blog this trip. (by the way, I hate blogging) Only because I had so much research to do before going and if even one person asks me for advice I can point them to this blog. What luau's, restaurants, hiking and entertaining things to do. It was overwhelming enough and not just that! What to pack? I plan for a living so naturally I had to be prepared making reservations so that I could just go and enjoy it all not standing in lines, figuring out where to eat when. Trust me when I say making a schedule for your vacation is actually much more helpful and doesn't make it feel structured. It helps stay relax without a worry. You don't want to just be stuck eating at the hotel every night. Most of these places need advanced reservations and relying on the hotel concierge might not always be helpful.
Anyways, here we go! Hope it all goes as planned and if not, I'm happy just being with my love and drinking mai tais on the beach.
